Safety

In this section the procedures necessary for the normal carrying out of activities within the department are available:

• General procedures: methods of access to research laboratories, distribution of personal protective equipment (PPE) during excursions and during laboratory activities, verification of participation in the FAD Sicurmore course, chemical emergency and waste disposal;
• Laboratory Procedures: this section is still being prepared; contains specific procedures for the different activities carried out in laboratories such as instrumental procedures, separation, synthesis, sample preparation, etc.
• MO-51 safety and procedures - DSCG:   the document is used to illustrate to new staff, graduates, scholarship holders and PhD students the safety and management procedures of the MO51 building updated to the date of the last meeting held

The SDS (Safety Data Sheet) safety data sheets represent the most significant technical document for information purposes on chemical substances and their mixtures, as they contain the necessary information on the physico-chemical, toxicological and environmental hazard properties necessary for correct and safe handling of substances and mixtures. SDSs allow:

• the employer to determine whether dangerous chemical substances are handled in the workplace and to therefore evaluate any risk to the health and safety of workers deriving from their use;
• users to adopt the necessary measures to protect health, the environment and safety in the workplace.

The emergency plan pursues the following objectives:

• address the emergency as soon as it arises to contain its effects and quickly return the situation to normal operating conditions;

• plan the necessary actions to protect both Department personnel and the public;

• protect property and facilities as best as possible.

All employees of the Department of Chemical and Geological Sciences and all students of degree courses (three-year and master's degrees) are required to attend the FAD Sicurmore Course. The course, carried out entirely remotely, provides the basic knowledge for accessing and working safely in the different environments of the Department and, in particular, in the laboratories. At the end of the training, after passing an evaluation test, a certificate will be issued that can also be used in a non-university context.

To deliver the certificates, a course teacher will give precise instructions.

In this section, examples of labels for products and solutions and exemplary formats are available to draw up the list of equipment present in the individual laboratories (both research and educational) and that of the products present in the laboratory.
 

The paper list of each laboratory's equipment must be present (and easily accessible) in each individual laboratory; The paper list of stored products must be displayed on each safety cabinet.

​In this section, the operation of the anti-intrusion alarms, gas detection (methane and technical), fire detection as well as the operation of the automatic shutdown systems (inert gas and sprinklers) and video surveillance at the MO-51 building are available.
