General information on Natural Sciences

The Degree Course in Natural Sciences will direct you towards a broad and widespread knowledge of the Science of Nature and the Environment. The subject of study is very broad and highly interdisciplinary and touches on biotic and abiotic aspects. In fact, to protect and enhance Nature and the Environment in all their many aspects, it is necessary to develop a wide-ranging knowledge, which deals with both the "animals" and the "plants" that populate the different habitats of Planet Earth , as well as the aspects, both natural and anthropic, with which they interact. A fundamental aspect for defending Nature and the Environment is also its enhancement, through cultural activities that spread knowledge (teaching, care of museums, natural parks, theme parks and scientific dissemination) and support for economic activities that can develop in harmony with the environment that hosts them. All these aspects are destined to attract ever greater attention and awareness in the future and can materialize in good job opportunities for experts in the sector.

Access.
Students who have obtained a high school diploma or equivalent qualification valid for enrolment can enroll. However, it is necessary to take an orientation and evaluation test (Tolc & Ofa) aimed at ascertaining the aptitude and preparation for studies. This test is a useful tool both for students, in terms of self-assessment of their preparation and aptitude to undertake the chosen studies, and for degree courses and schools, in terms of ascertaining the minimum knowledge required to successfully face the tasks.

Education.

As mentioned, failure to pass this test does not preclude access to the course; however, any shortcomings must be filled within the first year of the degree course. The degree course presupposes knowledge of the Italian language in oral and written form although it is possible to carry out training activities in another community language. Frequency. Attendance is not compulsory, but is strongly recommended, especially for courses that involve practical activities (for certain courses, a minimum attendance at laboratory lessons is required which, in the case of working students, can be agreed with the teacher by providing, for example, recoveries through the support of student tutors). There are no online lessons (streaming) or the uploading of the same (pre-recorded lessons) on electronic platforms. However, by contacting the teacher of the course that cannot be followed in class, it is possible to recover the teaching material given to everyone, as well as further material to support non-attending students. This usually occurs through inclusion in the teaching team or in another online platform.
