General information on Geological Sciences

The degree course in Geological Sciences offers the opportunity to learn about the history of our planet, to understand its nature and to safeguard it. In a historical moment characterized by rapid climate changes and intense environmental modifications, graduates in Geological Sciences are essential figures for the protection of the natural environment, land management, mitigation of natural risks (landslides, earthquakes, floods, volcanic eruptions... ), the exploration and responsible and eco-sustainable use of natural resources

Access requirements

The degree course in Geological Sciences is open access. Students must have a high school diploma or other qualification obtained abroad, recognized as suitable according to current legislation. Some first-year courses include pre-requisites (visible on the esse3 web page of the courses themselves) which, however, are not binding for the purposes of admission to the degree course.

TOLC, OFA

The Degree Course includes an assessment test aimed at ascertaining aptitude and preparation for studies, through an Online Test managed by CISIA (hence the acronym TOLC). The reference test is the TOLC-S administered for the science area. The TOLC test is passed by obtaining at least 10 points in the Basic Mathematics section. Those who did not pass the TOLC test before enrolment are assigned Additional Educational Obligations (OFA) to be fulfilled by the enrollment deadline for the second year, which is consequently subject to their recovery. The Degree Course organizes tutoring activities for the recovery of OFA and assessment tests in order to fulfill the Additional Educational Obligations (the precise dates are published on the WEB page of the Department of Chemical and Geological Sciences website in the 'News for students' section ').
