Teaching English for the three-year degrees covered by the DSCG involves the achievement of:
- 3 CFU for the Degree in Chemistry (demonstrating that you possess "listening" and "reading" skills at B1* level for the cohort prior to the 2018/19 cohort and B2 level starting from the students of the 2018/19 cohort)
- 6 CFU for degrees in Geological Sciences and Natural Sciences (demonstrating that you possess the skills of "listening", "reading", "writing" and "speaking" at level B1).
Starting from June 2016, all students, regardless of the year of enrolment, will be assessed with a final test according to the methods envisaged for the current year.
English language test (NOT ACTIVE FOR THE 2021/22 academic year)
The English language test is an optional English language test aimed at all newly enrolled students in three-year degree courses. For Chemistry degree students, passing the test at a B2 level entails total exemption from the language proficiency exam. For students majoring in Geological Sciences and Natural Sciences, passing the test at a B1 level entails partial exemption from the language proficiency exam. These students, at the end of the lessons, will have to complete the exam in order to demonstrate that they also possess the "writing" and "speaking" skills at level B1. The English language test is therefore recommended for all students who already have a good knowledge of the English language (at least B1 level) and who, by passing the test, can thus acquire total or partial exemption from the curricular exam. English language. To register for the Test, follow the instructions on the University Language Center website
Recognition of suitability via international certificate
The suitability of English can also be validated through the recognition of an international certification of a minimum level of B1 or B2, as required by the degree courses (see above), obtained from a certifying body.
For all three-year degree courses of the Department, the language certifications for the purposes of recognizing English proficiency will be considered valid regardless of the official duration established by the certifying body.
The international certification must be presented in original to the student secretariat who will send the evaluation to the Degree Program Council. If the certificate is accepted, eligibility will be automatically uploaded to the student's electronic record. For the Master's Degree Courses in Geosciences, Georisks and Georesources (LM-74) and in Science Teaching and Communication (LM-60), no English certification will be taken into consideration given the specific contents of the English courses in the two courses graduation. In case of doubts, you can contact the contact person of the Department for the English language, Prof. F. Bosellini.
